Lena Wood

Obituary: Concord - Mrs. Lena Wood, age 90, of Concord departed this life on April 5, 2009. Lena was born Nov. 26, 1918 in Cabarrus County the daughter of the late Charles David Aldridge and Daisy Elizabeth Garver Aldridge. Lena was employed with Cannon Mills for 40 years. She was a member of New Hope Worship Center in Concord. Preceding in death was her loving husband Gartrell Wood of 59 years and her wonderful son, Donnie Wood who died March 27, 2009. She was also preceded in death by 3 brothers Coy Aldridge of Kannapolis, Sam Aldridge of Concord, and Luther Aldridge of Concord, one sister Lula Cline of Greely, Colorado. Lena is survived by 3 daughters Sylvia Funderburk and husband Jerry of Huntersville, Kay Lentz and husband Joel of Concord, and Patsy Hines and husband Glenn of Huntersville, 1 granddaughter Heather Lentz of Mt. Pleasant, 2 grandsons, Matthew Hines of Huntersville and Jon Lentz and wife Beth of Huntersville, 1 brother, Rev. Charles Aldridge of Belmont, 2 sisters, Elsie Starnes of Concord and Nora Canup of Concord, and also by many nieces and nephews. Lena was dedicated to her family and to the pursuit of a full life and was an inspiration to many. She was an avid gardner, reader, loved making cakes and loved to see Tiger Woods play golf and Carolina Tar Heels play basketball. As a mother she emphasized the importance of getting an education, attending church and Sunday school and treating others with kindness and respect. She will be remembered for her generosity, southern charm, and the dedication and caring she showed in all her roles as wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and many friends to many. A service to celebrate the life of Lena will be 2:00 PM Wednesday April 8, 2009 at New Hope Worship Center in Concord with the Rev. Dale Jenkins and Rev. Tom Snipes officiating. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove. The family would like to thank Dr. Lairamore and all the good care given to our mother by all the nurses on ACCU at CMC NorthEast.
