Leona Catherine Helms

Obituary: Leona Catherine Helms, 87, died Monday, Feb. 20, 2012, at the Bob and Carolyn Tucker Hospice House. Miss Helms, a daughter of the late Joe Thomas Helms and Arey Flowe Rodgers Helms, was born Feb. 29, 1924, in Cabarrus County. She lived most of her life in the Enochville community near Kannapolis but, of late, resided at Wesbury Apartments in Concord. After graduating from Landis High School, Miss Helms completed business college and spent her 45-year career as a timekeeper at Cannon Mills, Plt. #1, #7 Spinning Room. She was a lifelong member of St. Enoch Lutheran Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Helms. She is survived by two sisters, Doris Herlocker of Norwood, and Beatrice Newton of Kannapolis; one brother, James (Shirley) Helms of Norwood; two nieces and four nephews. A Memorial Service, conducted by Rev. John Mark Beam, will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 23, 2012, at St. Enoch Lutheran Church. The family will greet friends in the sanctuary following the service.
