Obituary: Leona Helms Troutman, age 95, died Saturday, October 15, 2011 at Five Oaks Manor, Concord, NC after a period of declining health.She was born January 26, 1916 in Cabarrus County, NC, the daughter of the late Bert Helms and Hattie Mae Green Helms.Leona was employed with the former Cannon Mills Company, PLt.#1 Sewing Room for many years. She was an active member of Midway United Methodist Church, Kannapolis, NC where she was the first Sunday School superintendent, taught kindergarten, childrens', and later in life, adult Sunday School classes for fifty years. Leona also delivered Meals On Wheels for ten years. "Sis" won her crown. Her life fully reflects the passage from Revelations 2:10, "...be Thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of Life."In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Lee K. Troutman; a son, James L. Troutman; four brothers, James, Earl, Clifford, and Paul Helms; and a sister, Bertie Sherrill Parker.The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 21, 2011 at Midway United Methodist Church, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Burt Williams. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, October 20, 2011 at Whitley's Funeral Home.Survivors include her daughter, Joann Lippard & husband, Phil of Concord, NC; a grandson, Robert Troutman of Kannapolis, NC; two granddaughters, Lori Cheek & husband, Brady of O'Fallon, IL and Jeanette Lunsford of Arcadia, NC; six grandchildren, Brandon Cheek, Tyler Cheek, Taylor Lunsford, Amber Lunsford, Easton Troutman, and William Redmond; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and family friends.Memorials may be made to Midway United Methodist Church, 108 Bethpage Road, Kannapolis, NC 28081 or Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
