Leonard Ray Patterson

Obituary: Leonard Ray Patterson, 92, of China Grove, NC went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 6, 2019 at his residence following a period of declining health. He was born June 22, 1926 in Rowan County, NC a son of the late Robert Lee Patterson and the late Carrie Velma Sloop Patterson. Leonard was a lifelong farmer, who enjoyed hunting, fishing and his many friendships. He was a lifelong member of Lutheran Chapel church where he had served as head of the cemetery committee, prior choir member and had served on the church council several times. He served as a Sgt. In the US Army during WWII, being stationed in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Rice Patterson on May 22, 2014. Family members left to cherish his memory are one son, Philip Patterson and wife Ryane of Mt. Pleasant, NC., one daughter, Deborah Young and husband Darrell of China Grove, a brother, Emmett Patterson and wife Emily, three sisters; Ollie McKnight, Mabel Brown and Alice Bittinger. Also surviving are grandchildren; Kayla Daniel and husband Barry, Landon Patterson and wife May, and Tristom Young. One great grandchild, Rose Leigh Patterson also survives. A Memorial service to honor Leonard's life will be held 10:30 A.M. Saturday, June 8, 2019 at Lutheran Chapel Church conducted by Rev. Susan Bame. The family will speak to friends at the church fellowship hall following the service until 12:00 Noon. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Lutheran Chapel Church, P.O.
