Leslie Avant

Obituary: Leslie W. Avant, age 92, of Kannapolis passed away January 24, 2013 at Catawba Regional Hospice in Newton, NC. Mr. Avant was born June 12, 1920 in Danville, VA and was a long time member of Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church in Kannapolis, NC. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps (later U.S. Air force) and served as a crew member on a B-24 Liberator Bomber in the South Pacific during WWII and was a Silver Star recipient. Mr. Avant was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Louise Ludwick Avant. He is survived by his daughters; Jean A. (Thad) Lineberger and Leslie E. Avant, both of Hickory, his granddaughters; Gena L. Porter of Hickory, Amanda Heinitsh of Brevard and Andrea Ewing of Covington GA and his great-grandchildren; Jesse and Blake Porter of Hickory and Hannah and Tucker Foster of Brevard. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, January 31 at Carolina Memorial Park Plaza Mausoleum with visitation following at the home of Mr. Avant.
