Obituary: Levi Glen Powell, 84, of Kannapolis, NC died at his residence on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 after a lengthy illness. Mr. Powell was born August 10, 1933 in Burke Co., NC son of the late Sam Odell Powell and the late Alma Lee Jacumin Powell. In addition to his parents, Levi is preceded in death by his daughter, Carrie Lee Powell, one son, Sam Allen Powell and, one brother and one sister. Levi was a descendent of the original Waldensians who came to America in 1893 for religious freedom, settling in Burke Co. He was a Veteran of the US Navy and served on the USS Midway and USS Pittsburgh. He served for 30 years on the NC Highway Patrol retiring as Sgt. and later worked at Fieldcrest-Cannon security and first responders. He was a member of High Peak Baptist Church in Burke County. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 60 of years, Katie Powell, a son, Glen Albert Powell (Janet) of Salisbury, a daughter, Glenda Powell Parker of Concord, seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. A memorial service will take place at 4:00 PM, Saturday, February 24th at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 before the service.
