Obituary: Lewis Eugene "Gene" Smith, 74, of Concord died Thursday, Oct. 21, 2010 at his home. He was born May 4, 1936 in Fentress County, Tn., the son of the late Oscar and Alta York Smith. He was a retired owner of Specialty Mode Manufacturing in Jacksonville, NC. He attended Memorial Baptist Church. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Mary Frances Martin Smith, three sons: Russell Martin, Terry Smith and Darrell Smith, two daughters: Pam Smith and Carol Ann Gibson, 9 grandchildren: Stephanie Smith, Joshua Smith, Taylor Smith, Ashley Hayden, Jason Hayden, Corey Gibson, Lucas Smith, Emily Gibson and Tanner Gibson, two sisters Dolly Smith Green and Faye Culp, and his brother Louie Smith. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. Tim McQueen. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
