Obituary: Davidson, NC- Lillian Shaw Hayer, age 84, graduated from this world to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 20, 2011 at 3:00 P.M. She suffered from a rare form of cancer (carcinoid tumors) for over four years.She was born May 10, 1927 in Marlboro County, SC, the daughter of the late James Calvin Shaw and Annie Lee Shankle Shaw. She grew up in Wallace, S.C. She was one of ten children with only one brother remaining, Mitchell E. Shaw of Wallace, SC. Mama met daddy, James Franklin Hayer when he was on Army maneuvers in Wallace, SC in 1944. They married and moved to Cabarrus County, NC near his family and lived on a small farm. Lillian was employed with the former Cannon Mills Company, Plant #1 Wash Cloth Dept. Second Shift for forty years until her retirement. She deeply loved her church, Shiloh United Methodist Church, Concord, NC where she taught the primary class, was active with the ladies circle #1, served on numerous committees, and cared for the elderly in her neighborhood. Lillian was a fantastic cook who loved to prepare foods for her large family especially her grandchildren, enjoyed canning and freezing foods. She was a loving and caring mother and grandmother who wanted her children and grandchildren to do their best and be successful in their lives. She is at rest now, joyous and whole again. Her daughter, Diann Wayne, states "The person I am today is because of my mama whom I gave all my love."In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, James F. Hayer who died in 1984; a daughter, Patti Fink Webster; a son, Jimmy Hayer; and two grandchildren, Gerald Hayer and Gary Robinson.The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at Shiloh United Methodist Church, Concord, NC officiated by Rev. Danny Wilson. Burial will follow at in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the church prior to the service.Survivors in addition to her brother include her daughter, Diann Wayne of Davidson, NC; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.Many thanks to her granddaughter, Katie Ann Webster and her son, Jackson, age 3 ½ who helped care for her during her illness. Much love to her faithful brother, Mitchell who came to see her every weekend for over a year. Also thanks to the Batte Cancer of CMC-Northeast and Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County for their service and help.
