Obituary: Lloyd George Drye, a child of the Most High God, a wonderful son and brother, a loving husband, devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and veteran of WWII went home to be with the Lord on Thursday morning, August 11, 2016. Born September 28, 1924, he was 91 years young and a blessing to all who knew and encountered him. His zeal for life was apparent as he rose early each morning with the joy of the Lord. His ideal day would be to rise early in the morning, spend some time tending his flower garden then retreat inside to make the best pancake breakfast for his grandchildren. After breakfast he would ride up to his antique shop for a couple of hours then hurry home to take his grandchildren shopping and then to Billy Goat Gruff's house in the afternoon. By 6 o'clock he and his wife, Winola, would have a huge supper on the table for his children when they came to pick up the grandkids. He knew what was important and necessary in this life and he did just that. The Lord gave him many talents. He was a landscaper, an artist, an antique dealer, a chef, and a comedian. For 91 years he used these talents to glorify the Lord. Welcoming him to his heavenly home are his parents, James Charles, Sr.; Beulah Smith Drye; and his five brothers, Curtis, Alton, Homer, Jim, and Carl. He left a legacy for those who have survived him; his beloved wife of 68 years, Winola Drye; his firstborn, Stephen L. Drye and wife, Vera Drye; his baby boy, David M. Drye and wife, Patricia Drye; his grandchildren: Crystal Kirchbaum and husband, Jeff; Heath Drye and wife, Caroline Drye; Megan Harper and husband, Michael Harper; Katherine Gonzalez and husband, Matthew Gonzalez. He was even blessed with 6 great-grandchildren: Gerin Hill, Aiden and Ian Kirchbaum, Henry and Griffin Harper, and one on the way, Heath, Jr. Without a doubt, heaven was rejoicing as Lloyd entered into the Promised Land. He will be missed greatly and his legacy will not be forgotten. Services will be held at First United Methodist Church, China Grove, NC on Monday, August 15, 2016. The family will receive friends from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM with the funeral service to follow at 11:30 AM. Our family appreciates the outpouring of love and support, and most of all, your prayers. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, 110 W. Church Street, China Grove, NC 28023. "Well done thou good and faithful servant...enter thou into the joy of the Lord."
