Lloyd Lee Hawkins, Sr.

Obituary: Lloyd Lee Hawkins, Sr., age 76, went to be with the Lord and his belovedwife, Doris Ann, on Sunday, March 18, 2012 at CMC-NorthEast, Concord, NC. He was born March 27, 1935 in Cabarrus County, the son of the late Augustus Baxter Hawkins and Minnie Delia Hinson Hawkins. As a young man of fourteen, Lloyd was the Concord Tribune's first street newspaper carrier, but before delivering papers, arose every morning at 3:30 a.m. to work on a bakery truck route. He married Doris Ann Christy on May 1, 1965. Together, they raised three children, Carolyn, Lloyd, Jr., and Doris. He later worked for Cannon Mills as an overhaul fixer for 35 years until his retirement in 1996. He then worked with his son, Lloyd Hawkins, Jr., in their family business, Junior's Lawn Care and Landscaping until 2008. He was also a faithful member of Universal House of Prayer in Concord. Lloyd's favorite pastime was making a daily trip to the Kannapolis Wal-Mart where it seemed every employee knew him. He also enjoyed time spent with his children and five grandchildren. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife and a sister. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, March 24, 2012 at Universal House of Prayer, 2999 Eva Drive NW, Concord, NC officiated by Rev. Randy Lefler and Rev. A.W. Sutton. Burial will follow at West Concord Cemetery, Concord, NC. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday, March 23, 2012 at Whitley's Funeral Home, Kannapolis, NC. His body will lie in state one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Survivors include his three children, Carolyn Harris & husband, Bill of Kannapolis, NC, Lloyd Lee Hawkins, Jr. & wife, Carla of Mt. Pleasant, NC, and Doris Hawkins of Concord, NC; his five grandchildren, Trey and LeighAnn Harris, Brandon Hawkins, and Cassidy and Tyler Honaker. The family of Mr. Hawkins would like to thank Dr. Tignor and the staff of Poplar Tent Family Physicians, Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, the nurses & care partners at CMC-NorthEast, 4-J Unit, and Gentiva Healthcare for all their help and support. Also, a special thank you to the employees of the Kannapolis Wal-Mart store who always made him feel welcomed at every visit.
