Lloyd Elwood Ketner of Kannapolis, 90 years of age, born in Franklin Township, Salisbury, NC on July 26, 1929 answered the high calling of the Lord Jesus Christ and went to his heavenly home ( Philippians 3:14) on February 1, 2020.
He was the son of the late Charles Adam Ketner and Mary Lee Troutman Ketner. He was also preceded in death by three sisters; Ruth Ketner Caldwell, Cleo Ketner Glenn, and Myrtle Ketner Waddell, and two brothers; Roy C. Ketner and Clyde Ketner.
Lloyd was a graduate of A.L. Brown High School and was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church in Kannapolis and later Community Chapel. He was employed at Cannon Mills as a name towel coordinator for close to 40 years. He proudly served his country in the Army during the Korean War until his discharge in 1952.
He was a devoted loving husband and wonderful father who loved his family unconditionally. He exemplified honor, integrity and honesty. Lloyd had a great sense of humor and was passionate about everything he did. He had a keen mind for numbers and facts, a love of history and was a great writer who dreamed of being a sports writer. He was an avid sports fan who loved the Boston Red Sox and Duke. He was a source of inspiration to his family and his presence will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
Family members left to cherish his memory are his wife of 66 years; whom he married December 11, 1953, Bessie “Betty” Trotter Ketner of the home, three sons; Steve Ketner of Kannapolis, Danny Ketner and wife Susan of Davidson, David Ketner and wife Joanna of Salisbury, a daughter, Karen Ketner Faulkenbury and husband Jerry of Salisbury, two sisters, Daisy Ketner Williams of Mt. Pleasant, and Mildred Ketner Karriker and husband Grady of Greenville, NC, grandchildren; Blake Ketner and wife Sherry, Rebecca Ketner and fiancé’ Shannon Todd Osborne, and Hayden Faulkenbury , one great grandson, Camden Ketner. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services to celebrate Lloyd’s life will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Garold Roseman and Rev. Mike Hazeltine. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park with military graveside honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the funeral. At other times they will be at the residence.
