Obituary: Kannapolis, NC- Lois Lumsden Avant, age 96, passed away on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at Big Elm Nursing Center, Kannapolis, NC. She was born April 26, 1920 in Alexander County, NC, the daughter of the late William Espy Lumsden and Nora Rufty Lumsden. Lois was employed with the former Cannon Mills Company, Plant One, #3 Weave Room for many years until her retirement in 1982. She was also a member of Central Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC. Her family fondly remembers her as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her 1st husband, Charles Earl Freeze; 2nd husband, Chester Eugene Avant; three brothers; and five sisters. The funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Curtis Parker. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home prior to the service. Survivors include her two daughters, Patricia (Pat) Shepherd of Statesville, NC and Miss Jane Susan Avant of Kannapolis, NC; one granddaughter, Kelli Keever (John) of Mooresville, NC; two great-grandchildren, Meredith and Ryan Keever; and two sisters, Evelyn Scarborough of Rockwell, NC and Connie Brown of Landis, NC. The family would like to say a special thank you to the nursing staff of Big Elm for their loving and steadfast care that they gave to our mother and grandmother.
