Obituary: Lois Evelyn Hayden Gainey, 81, of Kannapolis, N.C. died at Liberty Commons Nursing Center in Salisbury, NC on Wednesday, March 26, 2014. Lois was born in Darlington Co., SC, on June 24, 1932, the daughter of the late James Hayden and the late Ada Harrell Hayden. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Luther C. Gainey who died on Dec. 13, 2002; a daughter, April H. Richardson and a son, Dennis Gainey. Mrs. Gainey retired from the former Cannon Mills Co. after 35 years of service working as a spooler. Her life was centered on the love of her family. Survivors include 2 daughters, Melanie Dukes of Biloxi, MS and Donna Gainey of Jacksonville, FL; 2 sons, Delray Gainey and Kenneth Gainey both of Kannapolis; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and her sister, Melvin Dixon of Darlington, S.C. The service for Lois will be held at 12:00 noon, Tuesday, April 1st, graveside services at National Cemetery, Salisbury, N.C. conducted by Rev. Ed Hodge. The family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home from 10-11 a.m. before the service.
