Lois Simmons Jackson

Obituary: Mary Lois "Mama J" Jackson, 93, of Concord, died Saturday, October 9, 2010 at Bob and Carolyn Tucker Hospice House after a brief period of declining health. Services will be at 2:00 PM Tuesday, October 12, 2010, at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel. The Reverend Dr. Richard Little will officiate. Burial will be at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis. The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM - 2:00 PM at the funeral home. She was born November 8, 1916, in Madison County, Georgia the daughter of the late James H. and Mary Sue Smith Simmons. After moving to Kannapolis, she worked for a while in Cannon Mills and later worked at Security Bank and Trust in Kannapolis, where she retired after 20 years of service. She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church. Survivors include two sons: Stephen Michael Jackson and wife Verna Hanna Jackson of Harrisburg, Anthony Keith "Tony" Jackson and wife Margaret Huss Jackson of Hickory. Four Grandchildren: Dana J. Clay of Raleigh, Alan K. Jackson of Hickory, Brian H. Jackson of Forest Grove, OR, and Mary-Margaret J. Baker of Hickory. Eight Great-grandchildren: Hanna, Zach, Clint, Luke, Alexander, Nicholas, Charlotte and Sullivan. One Brother: Curtis R. Simmons of Concord. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, James Bruce "J.B." Jackson, three brothers, J.W. Simmons, Jim Simmons, and Corris Simmons and one sister, Eula Mae Simmons. The family wishes to express their most sincere thanks to her niece, Charlene Simmons Horne, and all the "angels" of the Bob and Carolyn Tucker Hospice House who cared for Ms. Jackson during her last month on earth. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081 or Calvary Lutheran Church, 950 Bradley Street, Concord, NC 28025.
