Obituary: Mrs. Lois Gray Kenerley, age 86, died Sunday, January 3, 2010 at Big Elm Nursing Center in Kannapolis, after a period of declining health. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday, January 6 at First Evangelical Methodist Church of Kannapolis with Rev. David Hayes officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:30 PM Tuesday, Jan. 5 at the church, at other times the family will be at the family home. Lois was born November 5, 1923 in Cabarrus Co., the daughter of the Late Robert Lester and Mary Wilma Schenk Gray. She was a life long area resident educated in the Kannapolis City School System, graduating from J. W. Cannon High School. Lois worked for Cannon Mills Co. for 44 years in Plant #1 Sewing Room and was the last living Charter member of First Evangelical Methodist Church where she was active as a Sunday school teacher, financial secretary and church historian for many years. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her step-mother Letha Jane Stirewalt Gray, her brother, Earl D. Gray and her sisters, Dollie G. Barringer and Fay G. Hyde. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Johnson C. Kenerley of the family home and her daughter Janet K. Parks (Ronnie) and grandchildren, Angie Leigh Parks Power (Tony) and Andy Leon Parks (Megan) all of Kannapolis and her great-granddaughter, Alexis Parks. She is also survived by her brothers; Robert Lee Gray (Barbara) of Fayetteville, GA, Clyde Gray (Faye) and Gary Gray (Janet) both of Kannapolis, her sister-in-law Diane Gray of WA and brothers-in-law, Joe Hyde and Melvin Barringer, both of Kannapolis, and a number of nieces and nephews Online condolences may be left at www.whitleysfuneralhome.com and memorials may be made to First Evangelical Methodist Church 212 Prince St. Kannapolis, NC 28083
