Lois Laney

Obituary: Mary Lois Whitaker Laney, 96, passed away Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at her daughter's home. Mrs. Laney was born June 11, 1916 in Union County to the late J. D. Whitaker and Jennie Whitaker. She was married to the late Virgil Lee "Pete" Laney who preceded her. Lois retired from Cannon Mills Company; was a member of Shadybrook Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher, choir member, WMU Director and was involved in various phases of church activities. Survivors include two sons, Sherrill Laney and his wife Sue of Kannapolis, and Monty Laney and his wife, Martha of Nashville, Tenn; a daughter, Janice L. Barbee and her husband, Ted of Davidson; five grandsons, Jason Barbee, Bryan Barbee, Bud Laney, Randy Laney, and Mark Laney; and nine great grandchildren. Other than her parents and husband a brother, Jay Whitaker, preceded Lois in death. A funeral service will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, October 13, 2012 at Shadybrook Baptist Church with the Rev. Rickey Oxford and Rev. Gene Burke officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 10:00-11:00 A.M. prior to the service in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Shadybrook Baptist Church 1009 Oakwood Ave Kannapolis, NC 28081; or to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County 5003 Hospice Lane Kannapolis, NC 28081.
