Obituary: Kannapolis, NC- Lonnie Max Carter, age 69, beloved husband of Phyllis Hartsoe Carter, died peacefully and unexpectedly on Sunday, August 23, 2009 when he went to meet his Lord. He was born December 9, 1939 in Rowan County, NC, the son of the late Everett Carter and Grace Cline Carter. He was a graduate of China Grove High School & later at Strayer University. Lonnie worked for Cone Mills & the former Cannon Mills Company for a number of years. In later years he also worked at Rowan County Fair Grounds, Rowan Recycle, & at Concord Middle School when he became ill. Lonnie was an outgoing man who never met a stranger. He was a Christian and not ashamed to share his witness. He loved his family and was a very devoted husband. He was actively involved with Lane Street Church of God. He also loved his dogs- Angel, Max, Trissy, Nick, & Ricky. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Michelle Carter. The funeral service will be 7:30 P.M. Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Ralph Robinette. Burial will be private at West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove, NC. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home prior to the service. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Hartsoe Carter; his precious step-daughter, Ann Marie Edgison, both of the home; a brother, James H. Carter and a sister, Gertie Wilkerson, both of Kannapolis, NC; two sons, Kevin Mitchell Carter & wife, Debbie of Ridgecrest, CA and Kendall Max Carter of Landis, NC; his grandchildren, Jessica Carter, Jonathan Carter, Faith Marie Carter, and Erica Leigh Carter; and one great-grandchild, Madison Rogers. In lieu of flowers the family ask for any contributions to be made to Whitley's Funeral Home to help pay for funeral expenses.
