Obituary: Lonnie Carl Pace, Jr., 92, of Concord passed away on Friday, Sept. 6, 2013 at his home. He was born January 10, 1921 in Mecklenburg County, the son of the late Lonnie Carl Pace Sr. and Odessa Benton Pace. He was preceded in death by a brother, Roy Pace and three sisters, Mildred Corbett, Nancy Helms and Marie Pace. L.C. had formerly worked for O.L. Nixon Construction and Blankenship Brothers Construction. He was a veteran of the US Army Air Corps where he served in WW II from 1942-45. He was a member of Pitts Baptist Church. He loved fishing and bowling. He also enjoyed watching Nascar racing. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. Scott Davis and Rev. Kevin Seger. Entombment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 PM prior at Whitley's. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Nellie "Nell" Merrill Pace, three brothers, Jack Pace and Jimmy Pace both of Charlotte, Melvin Pace of Monroe and a sister, Beatrice Biggers of Charlotte.
