Lorraine Blackwelder Coleman

Obituary: Lorraine Blackwelder Coleman, 74, of 843 Kannapolis Parkway, Concord, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on August 26, 2014. Mrs. Coleman was born in Cabarrus County, NC on January 15, 1940, the daughter of the late Cletus Jake Blackwelder and the late Viola Maude Starnes Blackwelder. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by 2 brothers; Edward Blackwelder and Bobby Blackwelder. Lorraine was a devout Christian Lady and a Charter Member of Odell Baptist Church where she was a leader with the AWANA Children's Program. Her passion was for children and served as Nursery Director for many years. The children loved her as much as she loved them. Lorraine's early work career was with Concord Telephone Company and later worked for Southern Bell until her retirement. Survivors include her husband, W.L. "Dub" Coleman, Jr. of the home; 3 sons, Tim Coleman (Rhonda), Tracy Coleman (Janice) and Trent Coleman (Gina) all of Concord. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren; Chris Huscusson, Brittany Coleman, Jordan Safrit, Loren Coleman and Chandler Coleman; 2 great-grandchildren, Alyssa Safrit and Courtney Huscusson and by her sister, Mildred Blackwelder, and a special niece, Kathy Gray. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 29th from 12- 2:00 P.M. with the funeral service to follow at Whitley's Funeral Home Annex Chapel. Rev. Rodney Taylor will officiate. Burial will take place at Poplar Tent Presbyterian Church Cemetery following the service. Memorials can be made to: Odell Baptist Church, 632 Davidson Hwy., Concord, NC 28027.
