Lotan Arthur (L.A.) Overcash

Obituary: Lotan Arthur Overcash, Sr. (L.A.), age 79, died Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at the Bob & Carolyn Tucker Hospice House, Kannapolis, NC after several months of declining health. He was born March 13, 1930 in Rowan County, NC, the son of the late Arthur (Buck) Overcash and Lizzie Ritchie Overcash. He was raised in Landis, NC. He was employed with G & S Metal Company for many years until his retirement in 1995. LA Sr. was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served during the Korean War in active duty from 1951 to 1953 and in the reserves from 1953 to 1958. He loved flying and was a pilot from 1945 until 1987 when his health grounded him. He enjoyed boating on Lake Norman, caring for his garden, and sharing his vegetables with friends and relatives. He also enjoyed working in his wood shop. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a brother, Fred Overcash; and three sisters, Nellie Durea Clodfelter, Florence Adeline Troutman, and Addie Mae Corriher. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, January 9, 2010 at New Hope Baptist Church, Concord, NC officiated by Rev. Roger Bostic. The family will receive friends from 11:30 am to 1:00 P.M. Saturday prior to the service at the church. Survivors include his wife, Betty Belcher Overcash to whom she would have been married for 60 years on January 6; his children, Gene Overcash & wife, Ginger Martin Overcash, L.A., Jr. Overcash & wife, Patty Johnson Overcash, and Darrell Alan Overcash & wife, Kim Eagle Overcash; His grandchildren, Jason Allen & wife, Amanda Hill, Clinton Daniel & fiancee, Sara Abernathy; and Lacee Anne, and Zachory Austin; His great-grandson, Bryson Allen Overcash. Memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081 OR New Hope Baptist Church, in care of the senior citizens group, 555 Neisler Road, Concord, NC 28025.
