Obituary: Mr. L. Lamar Parton's sunrise was 29 January, 1924, to the late Thomas Hood Parton, Sr. and the late Lou Cinda Smith Parton in Calhoun County, near Ohatchee, Alabama. The sunset was 27 July, 2012 5:00 A.M. at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, NC. Survivors include his wife Bettye June Keeney Parton, two sons, Leumoin Keeney Parton (Barbara) of Lenoir. NC. and Evan LaVaughn Parton (Cindy) of Kannapolis. He is also survived by two brothers, Thomas Hood Parton, Jr. (Iris) of Maylene, Alabama and Charles (Bud) Ellis Parton (Donna) of Attalla, Alabama. Also surviving are two granddaughters, five nieces and five nephews. Mr. Parton retired from Cannon Mills in Kannapolis and had been involved with the ministry of the Lord from 1943-1997 having been minister of Church of God of Prophecy. He was a US Army Veteran of WW2 as a PFC serving with the Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment Station, Comrement Army Service Unit 1458 and was awarded the American Theater Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the WW2 Victory Medal. Following his wishes there will be no viewing or visitation. Graveside services will be 2:00 P.M. Sunday, July 29, 2012 at West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove conducted by the Revs. Jack Kivett and Keith Flack. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Rowan County Military Honor Guard and the Patriot Guard. The family requests that in Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Red Cross, 2425 Park Rd. Charlotte, NC 28203 or to www.cabarruscountyredcross.org.
