Obituary: Concord, NC- Louis Franklin Cole, Jr., age 87, died unexpectedly Thursday, July 23, 2009 at CMC-NorthEast, Concord, NC from injuries sustained in a fall. He was born August 24, 1921 in Cabarrus County, NC, the son of the late Louis F. Cole, Sr. and Flossie Gray Cole. He made a service career in the U.S. Air Force for 30 years until retiring in 1971. He then worked for the former Cannon Mills Co. Plt.#1 Distribution Center as a foreman for 12 years until his retirement in 1984. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church, Concord, NC. He was a life member of the V.F.W. Poston-Perkins Post 8989 having served as commander eight times. He was also affiliated with the D.A.V. Chapter 27, American Legion Post 51, & a member of the Air Force Sergeant's Association. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Jean Cole and a grandson, Zachary Paul Montognese. The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Joseph Dionne, C.Ss.R. Burial will follow at St. James Catholic Church Cemetery, Concord, NC with military rites conducted by the United States Air Force. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Monday, July 27, 2009 at Whitley's Funeral Home, Kannapolis, NC with a rosary service at 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Helen (Penny) Livingston Cole; three daughters, Judy Ann Montognese of Mt. Holly, NC, Janice Marie Montognese & husband, Mark of Longmont, CO, Jane Gray Montognese & husband, Tony of Cornelius, NC, and Michele Cole Barnhardt & husband, Devon of Concord, NC; two sons, Louis Franklin Cole, III & wife, Judy of Concord, NC and John Louis Cole of Concord, NC; thirteen grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the V.F.W. Poston-Perkins Post 8989, 2500 N. Cannon Blvd., Kannapolis, NC 28083. Sympathy condolences may be left at information@whitleysfh.com.
