Obituary: Louise Sloop Goodman past away July 30, 2015 following a long battle with dementia and chronic kidney disease. Louise was born July 27, 1926 at home in Kannapolis. She was the daughter of the late Waldo J. and Bessie M. Sloop. Louise was preceded in death by her husband of fifty one years, Paul S. Goodman who died in 1997. Her fourth grandchild, Jeremy Goodman passed away in 2013 following lifelong illnesses. She is survived by her son Phillip (Phil) M. Goodman and wife Jeanne of Kannapolis, grandson Phillip P.A. Goodman and wife Melissa of Duluth GA., granddaughter Deanna (Lani) G. Allen and husband Jesse of Chesapeake, VA. and granddaughter Charissa (Ipo) G. Stutts and husband Jonathan of Mount Pleasant, N.C. She is survived by two great grandchildren, Serena Stutts and grandson Abram Stutts, also of Mount Pleasant. Louise is also survived by her niece Lisa Goodman Hughes and husband Edwin of Canton, GA. Being one of fourteen children, Louise had five sisters and eight brothers. She was also preceded in death by sister Ruth Thornburg, brothers Herman Sloop, C.A. Sloop, J.D. Sloop, Guy Sloop and Jerry Sloop. Preceding Louise in death were all of her husband's relatives including her closest sister in law, Mary Aldridge Goodman who passed away July 18, 2015. Louise is survived by sisters Thelma S. Honeycutt and husband Calvin, Helen S. McGinnis and husband Elgin, Margaret S. York, and Linda S. Menius. Brothers who survived Louise include Jacob H. H. Sloop and wife Mary Lou, Franklin Sloop, Tommy Sloop and wife Paulette. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Vickye Sloop and Geraldine Sloop. Louise was also preceded in death by her late in life four legged friend named, Sassy who slept with her when Phil and Jeanne moved back to Kannapolis. She is also survived by two other grand dogs; Lindsey Louise, a 12 yr old Schnauzer named in her honor and a 2 year old yellow Labrador retriever, Dixieland's Grace. Mrs. Goodman married Paul S. Goodman on August 17, 1946 and they lived at their residence in Kannapolis until their deaths. Louise graduated from Cannon High School in 1943 and went to work in the sewing room in Cannon Mills where she worked until the mid 1950's. She then worked at Becky Hinkle Fabrics on Cannon Boulevard till 1962 at which time she and Paul established Louise's Fabric Center. She owned and operated Louise's until she retired in 2001. Louise was a self taught seamstress who became known for her high quality work, creativity with fabric, low prices and large assortment of fabrics and notions. Throughout her career, Louise made ladies business attire, casual wear, beach wear, wedding gowns, formal wear, coats, hats, ties, curtains and table covers. She made garments for both state and federal senators' and congressmen's wives, local dignitaries, school teachers ,friends and relatives. For many years Louise made cheerleader, letter girl and majorette uniforms for several local junior high and high schools. She even made uniforms for NASCAR race teams. Later in life she mended uniforms for the local minor league baseball team. Louise loved to travel, bowl, go to baseball games and spend time at their timeshare in Florida. Louise was a very giving and caring person. She loved having her grandkids with her. She enjoyed her family dinners and reunions. Louise lived her life helping and giving to others. She loved her family and church. Grand kids were her greatest joy. In her own private way, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was a lifelong member of Bethany Lutheran Church, now known as New Hope Lutheran. She served on the church council, finance committee, pulpit committee and supervised the Luther League. She was a member of and past president of the Clarice Women's Club. Louise's closest friend was her sister Thelma (Thelma and Louise as they were known) with whom she traveled, worked and vacationed with. Visitation will be at Whitley's Funeral Home, Tuesday, August 4 from 7:00-9:00 pm. Funeral will be at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at 11:00 am.
