Louise Hooper Tate

April 16, 1930 — November 13, 2016

Obituary: Louise Hooper Tate, 86, of Kannapolis passed away on Sunday, November 13, 2016 at the Tucker Hospice House. She was born April 16, 1930 in Cabarrus County, a daughter of the late Rev. Lock Millard Hooper and Maggie Marie Lunsford Hooper. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Arthur Monroe Tate, sisters, Hazel Brotherton, Mary Hall, brothers, J.M. Hooper and Larry Hooper. Louise opened Tate's Hair Designers with her husband, Arthur Tate in 1963 and she retired in 2013 at age 83. She had previously worked at Cannon Mills, Montgomery Ward and Troy's Beauty Shop. As a youth, she ran her Dad's grocery store. Louise was an outstanding beautician and won many awards. She loved her Lord and singing in the church choir. She was active for years at North Kannapolis Baptist Church until her health limited participation. Louise was excellent with her ability to do crafts, cross stitch, crochet, needle point and handmade quilts-all works of art. She was proud of her Cherokee heritage and her Lunsford family was listed on the tribal roll for the Eastern Band of the Cherokee. Louise especially loved her family and grandchildren and like her father, she was a force of energy, personality and strong will. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, November 17, 2016 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. Chris O'Guin. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 Wednesday at Whitley's Funeral Home. She is survived by her husband, Walter David Rankin, her son, Tony Tate (Brenda) of St. Simons Island, GA, 3 grandchildren, Leia T. Hooker (Scott) of Pinehurst, Jason Tate (Amanda) of St. Simons Island, Ga., and Lindsay Lezotte (Matthew) of Richmond Hill, Ga. and her sister, Mildred Marie Davis (Curtis) of Kannapolis.
