Obituary: Lucile R. Morton, 91, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at Sunrise Assisted Living in Charlotte, where she was affectionately known as "The First Lady". She lived at Sunrise where her son Steve serves as activities assistant. Mrs. Morton was born December 16, 1922 in Chambers County, Alabama to the late Ellis Redmond and Chessie Foster Redmond. She was the wife of the late Rev. Wallace E. Morton, Sr. who preceded her in 2007. She was a member of New Hope Lutheran Church and she was a homemaker. Mrs. Morton worked alongside her husband as a devoted Pastor's Wife. She was diligent in her church, teaching Sunday school, vacation Bible School, confirmation classes, and she sang in the choir. Mrs. Morton was an artist and did church bulletin boards and original art work for mission studies. Survivors include his sons, Wallace E. Morton, Jr. of Salisbury, NC and Steve Morton of Charlotte, NC; a daughter, Kathy M. Wilson (Dave) of Pendleton, SC; grandchildren, David Kyle Wilson of Greenville, SC, and Benjamin (Ben) Austin Wilson of Pendleton, SC; a brother, Fletcher Redmond (Dorothy) Lanett, AL; a sister, Mrs. Ben Hayes of Greensboro, NC; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Katherine Tabor. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 2:00 P.M. Sunday, August 3, 2014 at St. Enoch Lutheran Church with Pastor John Merck officiating. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 12:30-2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
