Obituary: - Lucille Whitaker McDaniel, age 92, died Sunday, November 28, 2010 at her home. She was born September 13, 1918 in Rowan County, NC, the daughter of the late Troy Whitaker and Mary Mills Whitaker. Lucille was employed with the former Corriher Mills, Landis, NC for 43 years until her retirement in 1983. She was member of Mt. Zion United Church of Christ, China Grove, NC where she was active in the Womens' Guild, the Hattie Sechler Circle, and had taught Sunday School. Her family fondly remembers her love for cooking. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Elmer D. McDaniel who died in 1995; and two brothers, James (Bud) Whitaker and Troy (T.C.) Whitaker. The funeral service will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at Mt. Zion United Church of Christ, China Grove, NC officiated by Rev. Jerry Moore. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, China Grove, NC. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. Tuesday at the church prior to the service. Survivors include her two daughters, Betty M. Middleton of Salisbury, NC and Judy McDaniel of Landis, NC; five grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren, and her furry friend, Kitty Mac.
