Lucy Ann Graham Scoggins

Obituary: Kannapolis, NC- Lucy Ann (Sally) Graham Scoggins, age 83, died Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at Hospice House, Kannapolis, NC after eleven months of serious declining health. She was born May 7, 1929 in Madison County, Georgia, the daughter of the late Leonard Graham and Kanzadie Drake Graham. She was employed with the former Cannon Mills Company, Plant #4 and in later years worked for the Daily Independent and the Independent Tribune newspapers for 25 years. Later, she went to work at the Salisbury Post newspaper. Sally was a member of Second Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC. In earlier years she enjoyed singing with various groups including Bluegrass and Southern Gospel . In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, George Andrew Scoggins; four brothers; and one sister. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 7:00 P.M. Friday, October 26, 2012 at Second Baptist Church, 807 Sweet Gum Street, Kannapolis, NC officiated by her son, Rev. Gary Scoggins. Burial will be at a later date. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M Friday at the church prior to the service. At other times the family will be at her residence. Survivors include two sons, Wayne Scoggins & wife, Sharon of China Grove, NC, Rev. Gary Scoggins & wife, Donna of Kannapolis, NC; daughter, Linda Diane Hughes of the home and Delane Brakefield & husband, Rick of Kannapolis, NC; eleven grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Hubert Joe Graham of Kannapolis, NC and James (Jim) Graham of Comer, GA; and one sister, Odia Bell Vinson of Kannapolis, NC.
