Obituary: Lura McWhorter Nagy, passed away peacefully after a period of declining health late February 28, 2015 in Kannapolis, NC at the age of 87 years old. Mrs. Nagy was born on April 22, 1927 in Union County to the late George and Margaret McWhorter. Lura graduated from Cannon High School in Kannapolis. She worked and retired from Cannon Mills after 40 years of service; She was a member of Bethpage United Methodist Church where she had a passion for working with the young people in the church and also she was active in scouting activities throughout her life. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and serving others. Mrs. Nagy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, unselfish, and giving Christian women. Survivors include her husband of 67 years Frank P. Nagy, her son Charles F. Nagy (Joy); a half brother, Jerry McWhorter of China Grove; one step-brother, Carl McDuffie (Pat) of Reno NV; grandchildren, Edward Nagy (Amanda) and Natalie Major (Russ); one great-grandson, Braylon Nagy. She was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother, Laura Shinn McWhorter; brother, Charles McWhorter, Sisters, Macie Hilburn, Jean Clawson, and Joyce Griffin; and a half-sister, Louise Canup. A Celebration of Life will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at Bethpage United Methodist Church with the Rev. Marcus Portis officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Tuesday evening at Whitley's Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations can be sent to Bethpage United Methodist Church, 109 Fellowship Dr. Kannapolis, NC 28081; or Support Scouting activities, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts pack 254.
