Luther Gene Chastain, Jr.

Luther G. “Junior” Chastain, Jr, 85, passed away Friday morning, September 25, 2020, at the Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House.

Born June 12, 1935, in Macon, GA, he was a son of the late Luther Gene Chastain and Millie Scarboro Chastain.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Byrd Chastain; his sisters, Lois H. Safrit, Betty Scarboro and Mary “Ludy” Parham; brothers, Guy and James Chastain.

Junior had retired from Cannon Mills after 45 years of service, where he was a talented weaver. Mr. Chastain loved his family, animals, and had an affection for horses. He was also an Atlanta Braves fan. Although in a much better place today, Junior will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was looking forward to, once again, being with his much loved wife.

Family members include his sons, Craig and Tim Chastain; his granddaughter, ReeAnn Chastain; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 am Monday, September 28, 2020, at Whitley’s Funeral Home.  Services to remember and celebrate the life of Mr. Chastain will begin at 11:00 am in the funeral home chapel, conducted by Pastor Dennis Morgan. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Private Cemetery in China Grove.
