Obituary: L. Richard Honeycutt, 90, of 2113 Bertha St., Kannapolis, NC died at Five Oaks Manor on Thursday, November 19, 2009 after a period of declining health The funeral for Mr. Honeycutt will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009 at Kannapolis Church of God conducted by Rev. Sam R. Crisp. Burial will take place at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis. The family will receive friends from 10-11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Born on September 19, 1919, in Kannapolis, he was the son of the late Martin Luther Honeycutt and the late Etta Mae Sloop Honeycutt. He married Frances Scarboro in 1940 and they enjoyed a long, loving marriage of 69 years. He retired from Cannon Mills, #7 Card Room in 1986 after 38 years of service. He was a member of the Kannapolis Church of God, where he was a member of the Pathfinders Sunday School Class. He was educated in the Kannapolis City Schools and had been a life-long resident of Kannapolis except during World War II when he worked 6 years (1942-1948) as a welder and Burner in the Shipyards in Wilmington, N.C. He enjoyed planting and sharing his vegetable garden, working in the Tape Ministry at his church, and was known as a "Jack of all trades" in maintenance of not only his home but relatives and friends homes also. In addition to his parents, Mr. Honeycutt was preceded in death by son-in-law, Curtis W. Copley and three brothers; Robert, Floyd and W.C. He is survived by his wife, Frances Honeycutt of Kannapolis; daughter, Linda Honeycutt Copley of Concord; a brother Edgar Lee Honeycutt of Badin Lake. Memorials can be made to: Kannapolis Church of God 221 West A Street Kannapolis, NC 28081. The family wishes to give a special "Thank You" to his Church; also his Bertha St. neighbors Lois and Richard Reid, Helen Moss, Lisa and Chris Morgan, and Dale Weast for their kind help over the past several years which made it possible for Mr. Honeycutt to be able to live a somewhat independent life in his own home. Special friends/caretakers Revonda Hooks and Tony Russell will always be remembered for their care and help. Whitley's Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
