Mabel Patterson Brown, 95, passed away on February 10th at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis.
She was born on July 8, 1928, in China Grove, NC to the late Robert Lee Patterson and Carrie Sloop Patterson.
Mabel’s life can be summed up in 3 words: Faith, Community and Family.
Her faith was strong and she loved her church, Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church. Since 1951 she served at the church in many capacities. She worked on the church’s staff as Secretary and Educational, Financial, and Youth Director. She also served on numerous committees, sang in the choir, played hand bells, and helped to preserve the church’s history.
She loved her city and surrounding community and showed it through her volunteer work. While she was involved with a number of volunteer organizations, it was her work with three in particular that gave her the most joy. During her time on the Salvation Army’s Advisory Board, she served as the Christmas Fundraising Chair for 10 years, coordinating kettle captains and volunteers. She was a charter member of the Board of Directors for the NorthEast Medical Center Foundation, raising money to support our local hospital. Mabel was also a Co-Founder of the Kannapolis History Associates, where she helped curate and preserve the history of the city she cared for so much.
She loved her husband of 61 years, Bachman, and her grandchildren. Nana was always willing to play a board game and no one left her home hungry.
Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Bachman Brown; siblings, Hubert Patterson and his wife, Kathleen; Leonard Patterson and his wife, Mary; and Ollie McKnight.
Mabel is survived by her son Robert Brown; daughter Sarah Fishback and her husband, Vance; her grandchildren Jacob Brown, Carter Fishback and his wife, Rachel, Jack Fishback, Lawson Fishback; great-grandchild Riley Fishback; and her sister, Alice Bittenger, and brother, Emmett Patterson and his wife, Emily.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 13th from 1:00-2:00 pm at Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church. Services will begin at 2:00 pm in the church, conducted by Rev. John Futterer. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church at 101 Vance Street in Kannapolis, NC 28081.
