Obituary: Mrs. Maltie Martha Bailey Chandler, 89, of Salisbury went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at Genesis HealthCare. She had been in declining health but death was unexpected. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, May 24, 2014 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel conducted by her sister, Rev. Pearlie T. Peterson. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00-2:00 P.M. prior to the service. At other times they will be at their respective residences. Maltie was born April 17, 1925 in Richmond County, NC a daughter of the late William Samuel Bailey and Nettie Florence Brigman Bailey. She was a 1943 graduate of Winecoff School and had attended all her class reunions. She was a homemaker and a member of Boulevard Chapel Church. She was a Sunday school teacher for over 50 years. Her family remembers her excellent cooking and her love for growing flowers. She was a devoted Christian and called and invited people to church even after becoming homebound. She recently won Student of the Year at Genesis HealthCare. The family is thankful to God for giving them such a loving and Christian mother. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, James Wilburn "Bud" Chandler who died Dec. 27, 2004. She was also preceded in death by five brothers and six sisters. Survivors include two sons, Ronald Chandler of Kannapolis and Steve Chandler of Rockwell, two daughters, Pamela Chandler of Kannapolis and Janice Chandler Brewer of Pfafftown, NC., one step-daughter, Linda Kay Lowman of Salisbury, step-son, Arthur Ray Currie of Kannapolis, sister, Rev. Pearlie T. Peterson of Kannapolis, eight grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.
