Obituary: Walters, Marcella Coxey Kannapolis, NC- Marcella Coxey Walters, age 70, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at CMC-NorthEast, Concord, NC. She was born March 2, 1940 in Cabarrus County, NC, the daughter of the late John A. Coxey and Docie Cross Coxey. She was a graduate of Landis High School, Class of 1959. She also graduated from Lowrance Hospital School of Nursing in 1962. She was active in different fields of nursing for 42 years including the former Lowrance Hospital, the former H & M Medical Clinic, the former Cabarrus Memorial Hospital, a home health nursing agency, and her last position at the Lutheran Nursing Home as a second shift supervisor until retirement. She was a member of Sloan Lake Community Church, China Grove, NC. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by three brothers, Donald Ray (Bobby) Coxey, Terry Reid (Mickey) Coxey, and Cecil V. Coxey; and one sister, Rebecca (Kookie) Coxey Benfield. She is survived by her husband, Eulis Colon Walters with whom she shared 47 years of marriage; two sons, Jeffrey C. (J.W.) Walters & wife, Penny of Salisbury, NC and David W. Walters of China Grove, NC & his fiancee, Lynn Sechler of Kannapolis, NC; three grandchildren, Lindsay Jade Walters, Casey Faith Walters, and Daniel Lee Walters; one brother, Robert A (Buddy) Coxey & wife, Sandy of Cleveland, NC; three step-grandsons, Joey Daniels, Roy Daniels, and Cody Sechler; and one step-granddaughter, Madison Thomas. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 3, 2010 at Sloan Lake Community Church, China Grove, NC officiated by Rev. Zack Sizemore. Burial will be at a later date. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday, April 1, 2010 at Whitley's Funeral Home, Kannapolis, NC. The family will be at the residence, 1321 Mt. Vernon Avenue, Kannapolis, NC the remainder of the time. Her family thought of her as a very special mother, memaw, and aunt who loved spending time with her grandchildren. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Sloan Lake Community Church, in care of the Building Fund, 10255 Old Concord Road, China Grove, NC 28023.
