Obituary: Margaret Hawkins Biggerstaff, age 84, died Sunday, November 29, 2009 at the home of her son in Kannapolis, NC after a period of declining health. She was born September 14, 1925 in Lincoln County, NC, the daughter of the late Andrew Hawkins and Maude Biggerstaff Hawkins. She had lived in the Kannapolis area since 1945. She was employed with the former Cannon Mills Company, Plt.#1 Sheet Dept. for many years until her retirement. She was a member of Bethpage United Methodist Church, Kannapolis, NC where she was formally active in the choir, a church trustee, and various phases of church activities. She was also formerly active with the Ladies Auxiliary of the V.F.W. Post 8989. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Murril C. Biggerstaff; and two brothers, Ralph Hawkins and Earl Hawkins. The funeral service will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at Bethpage United Methodist Church, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Jeff Coppley and Rev. Duane Melton. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at Whitley's Funeral Home. Survivors include her son, Sammy Biggerstaff & wife, Shelia of Kannapolis, NC; one granddaughter, Michelle Kluttz & husband, Albert of Kannapolis, NC; one-great-granddaughter, Taylor Kluttz; and one sister, Shirley Martin of Lincolnton, NC Memorials may be made to Bethpage United Methodist Church, 109 Fellowship Avenue, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
