Obituary: Margaret Alice Smith Burr, 96, of Kannapolis, died Sunday, May 13, 2018 at her home surrounded by her family. Her funeral will be held at 11:30 AM Tuesday, May 15 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Willie Rash officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 to 11:30 AM Tuesday, prior to the funeral. Margaret was born February 21, 1922 in Cabarrus Co., the daughter of the Late Ben and Lizzie Safrit Smith. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harghret Burr in 1973, as well as her three brothers; Hollie, Roy Frank and Ben. She resided her entire life in the Centerview section of Kannapolis, graduating in 1939 from Cannon High School. Margaret retired from Terry Products and following her retirement, she enjoyed traveling, quilting and canning. She worked part-time teaching quilt making to students at Central Piedmont College and enjoyed basket weaving with ladies of her Sunday school class and bus trips with her fellow church members of Centerview Baptist Church, where she was a lifetime member Margaret was a hard-working and strong-willed woman with a sense of humor that served her well. She was a true blessing to be around and will be missed by many. She is survived by her daughter, Betty Jo Teal (Bob) of Kannapolis, her three sons; Jim Burr (Dianne), Mike Burr (Donna), both of China Grove and Eddie Burr of Stallings. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren; Margaret Bongard, Conrad Burr, Bobby Teal (Rita), Jennifer Cox (Marty), Jennifer Teal, Matthew Burr and Tina Alexander (Boyd), eight great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
