Margaret Gardner

Obituary: Concord, NC- Margaret Virginia Sherrill Gardner, age 94, passed away on Monday, July 13, 2015 at First Assembly Living Center, Concord, NC after a period of declining health. She was born August 18, 1920 in the Woodleaf section Rowan County, NC, the daughter of the late Albert Leroy Sherrill and Minnie Lawrence Benfield Sherrill as their only child. Margaret was a resident of Mary Ella Hall while working at Cannon Mills Company in her early years and later she worked in retail sales. She also performed volunteer work at the local hospital in Suffolk, VA where she resided until moving to Concord in 2000. She was a member of St. John's Reformed Church, Kannapolis, NC. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Fredrick Lee Gardner who died in 1999; and a son, Michael Lee Gardner in 1985. A graveside service and burial will take place at Holly Lawn Cemetery, Suffolk, VA at a later date. R.W. Baker Funeral Home, Suffolk, VA will be assisting the family there. No local services are planned. The family would like to acknowledge the staff of First Assembly Living Center for the excellent care while Margaret was a resident there and the care of Hospice of Cabarrus County during the last few months. Survivors include two nephews by marriage, Mr. Wayne Gardner & wife, Judy of Suffolk, VA and Mr. William Gardner & wife, Dawna of Henderson, NC as well as several cousins. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
