Obituary: Margaret McInnis Howard, 98, died peacefully at Tucker Hospice House on November 14, 2014. She was born March 8, 1916 in Rockingham, NC to the late Neil Harrison McInnis and Ada Davis McInnis, and graduated from Mooresville High School with the class of 1932. She was married to James Dallee Howard, Sr. from 1936 until his death in 1966. Margaret was a woman of great faith, with a warm, inviting personality, and a delightful sense of humor. When asked the secret to her longevity, she always attributed it to having a positive attitude. She stayed active in church, serving as a Sunday School Teacher, member of the Church Council, president of Women of the Church, and Financial Secretary. However, her most important role was in mentoring and praying for everyone she came into contact with. Margaret worked in retail sales for many years and helped to open the Sears store at the Carolina Mall, where she retired as a Division Manager after 15 years of service. Earlier in her career she worked for Belk's, Towel City Towel Company, and Sterchi's Jewelry. She fondly remembered the day that Tex Ritter came into one of her stores and ended up watching the Kannapolis Christmas Parade with her. In addition to her late parents and husband, Margaret was preceded in death by a sister, Maude "Peggy" Troutman of Mooresville; brothers George F. McInnis and Neil H. McInnis, both of Kannapolis; a daughter-in-law, Jane F. Howard of Concord; and a son, William "Bill" Howard of Kannapolis. She is survived by her son, Rev. James D. Howard, Jr and wife Wanda Allman Howard of Concord, five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, twelve great-great-grandchildren; and many other special nieces, nephews, and in-laws. The family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home Monday, November 17, 2014 from 6:00-8:00 P.M. At other times they will be at the residence. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel conducted by her son, Pastor Jim Howard. The family wishes to express our deepest gratitude to her many friends over the years, and especially to the wonderful, caring staff at First Assembly Living Center in Concord and at Tucker Hospice House of Kannapolis. Deuteronomy 4:40 - "So you shall keep His statutes and His commandments which I am giving you today, that it may go well with you and with your children after you, and that you may live long on the land which the LORD your God is giving you for all time."
