Obituary: Margaret Atherton Walter, 75, formerly of Concord, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, March 18, 2018, at Big Elm Nursing Center. Born July 6, 1942 in Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Dorothy Atherton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Dennis Hopkins. Margaret had retired from retail sales, having worked for various stores throughout her career. A loving and devoted mother and grandmother, her grandchildren were the light of her life and her greatest love. She also had loved her dogs, Scooter and Duke. Family members left with cherished memories include her children, Betty, James and Michelle Walter; her brother, Dan Hopkins; her grandchildren, Haley Walter, Dustin Gagner, Austin, Madison and Chelsea Walter. Mrs. Walter will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. The family will receive friends Friday, March 23rd from 12:00-2:00 pm at Whitley's Funeral Home. Funeral services to remember and celebrate the life of Mrs. Walter will begin at 2:00 pm in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
