Obituary: Margaret Sechler Widenhouse, age 87, passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at Summit Hills, Spartanburg, SC after a short period of declining health. She had lived in Kannapolis, NC for most of her life moving to Spartanburg, SC fourteen years ago to be closer to family. She was born June 24, 1929 in Cabarrus County, NC, the daughter of the late Jacob lee Sechler and Edith Correll Sechler. Margaret was a 1947 graduate of the former J.W. Cannon High School and Louise Harley School of Nursing in 1950. In earlier years Margaret was a registered nurse working for the late Dr. Lee Nance for many years retiring in 1963. She was a homemaker for most of her life. She and her late husband were very active members of Jackson Park United Methodist Church, Kannapolis, NC for most of their lives. Her family fondly remembers her love along with her husband's of Duke basketball going with the team to their many games and championships. When living in Kannapolis she was active in various circle groups and bridge clubs that were high points of her life. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, James (Jim) B. Widenhouse; a sister, Hilda Gaskins; and a brother, Don (Sonny) Sechler. The funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, April 8, 2017 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by the Dr. Greg Gordon. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 1:00PM to 2:00 PM Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service. Survivors include her son, Marty Widenhouse & wife, Beth and her daughter, Ann Widenhouse, both of Spartanburg, SC; two grandchildren, Olivia Widenhouse and Coleman Widenhouse; and one sister, Mary (Makie) Harris of Charlotte, NC.
