Obituary: Margie Louise Safrit Goodman Poarch, 93, passed away peacefully Sunday, September 18, 2011, at Best of Care in Kannapolis where she had resided since 2002. Born September 5, 1918, in Cabarrus County, Margie was a daughter of the late Luther M. Safrit and Mary Nellie Sifford Safrit. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Gerald Goodman; brothers Cecil, Murray, Clarence, and James (Bub) Safrit; sisters Zelma Kluttz, Pauline Yost, Dot Goodman, and Janie Kluttz. Educated in Cabarrus County, she had previously worked in the Sheet Department of Cannon Mills Company, Kannapolis, and later at Bernhardt Furniture,Lenoir. Margie was a member of Hudson United Methodist Church.Survivors include son Gary A. Goodman and wife Judy D. Goodman of China Grove; granddaughters Leslie G. Eagle (David) of Kannapolis and Stacey G. Burleyson (Jody) of China Grove; great-grandchildren Cameron Burleyson and Reece Burleyson of China Grove, Meghan Eagle and Olivia Eagle of China Grove; a beloved sister Alma Blackwelder of Concord; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from12:30 PM to 2:00 PM on Tuesday, September 20, 2011, at Whitley's Funeral Home, Kannapolis. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM in the Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. David Franks of First Reformed Church, Landis. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. At other times the family will be at the home of son Gary Goodman, China Grove. Memorials: First Reformed Church, 210 N. Central Avenue, Landis, NC 28088; Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081The family expresses heartfelt appreciation to Mr. "Gip" Rumple and the staff of Best of Care for their care of Margie for the last 9 ½ years.
Visitation: Visitation will be from12:30 PM to 2:00 PM on Tuesday, September 20, 2011, at Whitleys Funeral Home

Service: Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM in the Whitleys Funeral Home Chapel.

Interment: Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
