Obituary: Hodge, Daniel WebsterMr. Daniel Webster Hodge, Jr. (Dan), 82 years old, went home to be with our Lord Sunday, January 8, while the family was by his bedside at home. Mr. Hodge was born January 10, 1929 in Winston-Salem, the son of the late Daniel Hodge and Rachel Hodge. Dan was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He graduated from Salem College and also served four years in the Air Force during the Korean War. Dan was a banker for forty years. He retired as a Senior Vice President/City Executive with Central Carolina Bank (formerly Security Bank) which has now become SunTrust. Dan was active in the community including the Chamber of Commerce and named "Boss of the Year" in 1987 by the Kannapolis Chapter of Credit Professionals International. He was also a board member of Cabarrus-Stanley Credit Bureau, a member of the Kannapolis Rotary Club, and was named a "Paul Harris Fellow." Dan served as President and Secretary of the Kannapolis Lions Club where he was awarded the "Melvin Jones Award." He also served on the Kannapolis City Board of Adjustments from 1994-2011. Dan was a gifted musician whose major was in violin. He was a distinguished member of the Winston-Salem, Charlotte, and Raleigh Symphonies. He was an Elder and choir member at First Presbyterian Church for over 20 years. He served in various roles supporting the Boy Scouts of America. Dan's wife of 55 years, Joanne Hodge, from Dobson, N.C. was a nurse for 50 years and retired from Tuttle Family Practice after 30 years of dedicated service. Dan and Joanne have three children, David Hodge of Wichita, Kansas, Steve Hodge of Kannapolis, and Susan Hodge Thomas of Concord. Dan also has five grandchildren, Lauren and Bill Hodge of Wichita, Jamin Hodge of Kannapolis, and Alex and William Thomas of Concord. His niece, Elaine Carter Smothers, resides in King, N.C. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Carter, of Winston-Salem. The family will receive friends and have visitation at Whitley's Funeral Home in Kannapolis on January 11 from 6-8:00 p.m. The funeral service is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Kannapolis on Thursday, January 12. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
