Obituary: Marie Birmingham Dellinger, age 73, a LOVING MOM, who "always" put others first before herself. She went home to be with the Lord and was reunited with her son, Sammy, on Monday, August 31, 2009. Marie was born on July 16, 1936 in El Reno, Oklahoma, the daughter of the late William Marvin Birmingham and Edith Fern Anderson Birmingham. After moving to Indian Trail, NC, then later to Paw Creek, Marie attended Paw Creek High School. There, she worked at Kress Department Store. After traveling to France and Germany, Marie lived the remaining years of her life in the China Grove/Kannapolis, NC area. In Kannapolis, she worked for Fieldcrest-Cannon, Inc. Plant.#1 and Plant #6 for 28 years. In 1995 she began working for Heavenly Scent Cleaning, Inc. until recently she became sick. Marie was a member of Blackwelder Park Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC. She loved to listen to Gospel music. Her all time favorite singing group was the Gaithers. She enjoyed watching sports on T.V. She also enjoyed cooking for her family and for others. Marie was a very caring and loving person and to all those who knew or met her often called her Mom. She was very energetic, nicknamed by her Dad as "Wiggles" due to she could not be still. Marie enjoyed mostly being with her family. She loved her family very much. When all of her family was together all at one time, that was when she was the happiest and enjoyed life the most. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, David L. Dellinger; her eldest son, Thomas Samuel Kerr, Jr.; and two infant grandchildren, Derick and Alex. The funeral service will be 7:00 P.M. Thursday, September 3, 2009 at Blackwelder Park Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Keith Kannenberg and Rev. Stan Welch. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the church prior to the service. The family will be at the residence the remainder of the time. Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 4, 2009 at the Historic National Cemetery, Salisbury, NC. She is survived by her three sons, Benny Kerr & wife, Marsha of Salisbury, NC, Scott Kerr & wife, Angie of Kannapolis, NC, and Micheal Kerr of Kannapolis, NC; a daughter, Lisa Kerr Fink & husband, Gary of Salisbury, NC; three sisters, Edith Dellinger of Charlotte, NC, Jane Flippin of Sherman, Texas, and Sarah Wilkins of El Reno, OK; eleven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; ten nieces & nephews; and her best friend and companion for 12 years, a Chihuahua named Taco.
