Marie (Chapman) Hamrick

Marie Chapman Hamrick, 88, of Kannapolis died Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at her home with her family by her side after a period of declining health.

Private memorial services will be held at a later date.

Marie was born January 2, 1933 in Cabarrus Co., a daughter of the late Homer Lee and Lydia Singleton Chapman. In addition to her parents, Marie was preceded by her husband, John Nolan Hamrick in 2000 and a sister Mildred Chapman Matherly in 1994.

Marie was a lifelong area resident and graduate of J.W. Cannon High School, Class of 1950. She worked for Harris Teeter for many years as manager of the Deli counter. Marie was a member of Royal Oaks Presbyterian Church and recently attended New Hope Lutheran Church.  She enjoyed being a member of the Kannapolis Historical Society and was active in her high school class monthly luncheons.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter Jan Privatte (Darrell) of Greer, SC, her sons, Steve Hamrick, of Inman SC and Chuck Hamrick (LeeAnn) of Kannapolis.

Grandchildren, Erin Clayton (Jesse), Jessica Hebard (Mark), Brent Privatte (Samantha), Annie Fowler (Jonathan), Elizabeth Thompson (Terry) and 8 great-grandchildren

Marie is also survived by a brother, Melvin Chapman (Betty) and beloved friend, Mr. Ralph Deal.
