Marie Elizabeth Mullis Walker

Obituary: Surrounded by her loved ones, Marie Elizabeth Mullis Walker went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on February 5, 2014. She was born in Union County on July 23, 1934 to the late Lois Purser Mullis and Junior Floyd Mullis. Marie was educated in Cabarrus County and graduated in 1952 from the first graduating class of AL Brown High School in Kannapolis, NC. She also graduated from The Kannapolis Business School. Marie was married to the love of her life, the late Charles "Pete" Walker. She will always be remembered for the love she had for her family and her compassion for others. She and Pete owned and operated Peter Pan Day Care in Kannapolis for 42 years. She was affectionately known to all as Maw Maw Marie. During that time, she was extremely involved in the development of state daycare regulations. Marie was a lifetime member of Bethpage United Methodist Church in Kannapolis, NC. Throughout the years she served on various committees and was an active member of the Dot Hurley Sunday School Class. She and Pete were instrumental in the organization of the church softball league and were lifetime members of the South Rowan Booster Club. Marie and Pete enjoyed their time together, going to auctions, flea markets, and visiting family and friends. She also loved working in her yard and planting flowers. Most of all, Marie enjoyed spending time with her family. Left to cherish her memories are her four children: Debbie Beaver (George), Rosie Snow, C.T. Walker (Norma), all of Salisbury, and Jon Walker (Leigh Anne) of Kannapolis. She was loved dearly by her eight grandchildren: Elizabeth Gillis (Danny), Emily Yarbrough (Matt), Walker Snow (Jill), Weston Snow, Miranda McGinnis (Matt), Seth Walker, Ashton Walker and Dylan Walker. Great-grandchildren include: Drue, Eric, Graham, Griffin, Gentry, and Chase. Marie is also survived by her sister, Geraldine Snowden of Salisbury. She was preceded in death by a sister, Arbutus Dumont and a brother, Gile Mullis. Visitation will be held at Whitley's Funeral Home in Kannapolis on Thursday, February 6 from 6p.m.-9 p.m. A private burial will take place Friday, with a Celebration of Life Service held at 2 p.m. Friday at Bethpage United Methodist. Service: 2:00 PM, Friday February 7, 2014 Bethpage United Methodist.

Interment: Private burial will take place at a later date.
