Obituary: Kannapolis, NC -- Marion Crawford Mackey, 69, of Kannapolis died at his home on Sunday, January 17, 2016 after a brief battle with cancer. His funeral will be held Wednesday 4:00 PM January 20, at Whitley's Funeral Home Annex Chapel with Rev. Joey Spry officiating. Private Burial will follow at a later date. The family will receive from 3:00 to 4:00 PM on Wednesday prior to the funeral at the funeral home. Marion was born June 16, 1946 in Pageland SC, a son of the late Andrew and Georgia McLain Mackey. He was a long-time area resident. Marion worked for Cannon Mills-Pillowtex as a fixer in the Plant #4 weave room until he retired. He loved to fish and was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Marion will be deeply missed. In addition to his parents, Marion was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Walter and James Mackey. His is survived by his wife, Diane Daniels Mackey, his daughters; Gloria M. Oxendine, Kathy Mackey, Lora M. Mann and his son, "Jr." Mackey - all of Kannapolis. Marion was proud of his 5 grandchildren. Marion is survived by 3 sisters; Debbie Patrick and Bonnie Knight, both of SC and Frances Smith of GA and by 2 brothers; Wayne Mackey and Scott Effingham, both of SC, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and other loving relatives.
