Marjorie Dixon Barlow

Obituary: Marjorie Dixon Barlow, 77, of Kannapolis went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at Best of Care Assisted Living where she had been for the past 2 ½ years. She was born July 5, 1938 in Hookerton, NC the daughter of the late Sidney S. Dixon, Sr. and Marjorie Floyd Dixon. Margie and her family moved to Nashville, Tn. when she was a baby and returned to Wilson, NC when she was in the seventh grade. She graduated from Charles L. Coon High School in Wilson, Class of 1956. She was a cheerleader for 3 years and head cheerleader her senior year. She furthered her education by attending Greensboro College her freshmen year and graduated from Atlantic Christian College (now Barton College) in 1960 with a B.S. degree in Primary Education. She taught her first year in Jacksonville, NC. She and family moved to Kannapolis in 1961 where she continued her teaching career at Jackson Park School with the third grade. After retirement, she became an avid golfer and was a member of the Club at Irish Creek. She also played in several women's golf leagues. Margie was active in Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church. The family expresses their appreciation for the excellent care and love she received from the owners and employees of Best of Care Assisted Living. In addition, her family also has much appreciation for Dr. Russ Bodner and his staff at Northwest Neurology for their concerted efforts to help Margie during her sickness. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, December 12, 2015 at Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church officiated by Elizabeth Fisher. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Friday at Whitley's Funeral Home. She is survived by her husband, Leonard H. Barlow, Jr., daughter, Marjorie Lucille "Lou Barlow" of Kannapolis, two sons, Leonard H. (Buddy) Barlow III and wife Sharon of Kannapolis, William D. Barlow and wife Mary of Florence, SC, brother, Sidney S. Dixon, Jr and wife Barbara of Shelby, grandchildren, Alexandra, Brianna and Caroline Barlow of Kannapolis, Elizabeth, Lauren, Billy and Maggie Barlow of Florence, SC. Memorials may be made to Bob and Carolyn Tucker Hospice House, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081 and/or Alzheimer's Association, 4600 Park Road, Suite 250, Charlotte, NC 28209.
