Obituary: China Grove-Marla Ann Thompson, 49, passed away Monday, September 5, 2016 at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center, following a period of declining health. Born August 6, 1967 in Cabarrus County, Marla was the daughter of Bennie William Rainwater, Jr. and Kitty Cagle Rainwater. Marla was a loving and devoted homemaker for most of her adult life. A caring and loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend of many, Marla will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She had been an extremely dedicated volunteer at Boogerwoods for many years, where she was affectionately known as "the boss". Marla loved all of her family and was a member of Homestead Baptist Church. Preceding her in death were brothers, Jamie Johnson, III, and Brian Campbell, and her much loved step-father, Jimmy Johnson. Family members include her husband, Ronnie Dale Thompson, who she married in 1991; her daughter Jamie Thompson of the home; her mother Kitty Pauletta Cagle Dayvault (Mike); father Bennie William Rainwater (Suzanne); her siblings, Ashley Burgess (Chip), Jonathan Johnson (fiancée Michele Booth), Joshua Johnson (Holly), John Dayvault (Angie), Marc Campbell, Hannah Dayvault, Wendy Johnson (James) and Crissy Jones (Casey); aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and extended family. The family will receive friends Friday, September 9th from 6:00-7:00 pm at Homestead Baptist Church, 105 W 22nd Street, Kannapolis, NC 28081. Services to remember and celebrate Marla's life will begin at 7:00 at the church, conducted by Mitch Thomas, pastor. Private burial services will take place at a later date.
