Marlean Holt Corbin

Obituary: Marlean Holt Corbin, 87, of Kannapolis, NC, died peacefully after a short illness, her family by her side, Tuesday morning, April 13, 2010 at Carolina's Medical Center-NorthEast, Concord, NC. Mrs. Corbin was born (February 5, 1923) and raised in Albemarle, NC, the daughter of the late Virgil and Lilla Morton Holt. She is proceeded in death by her husband of 59 years, Herman Franklin "Frank" Corbin (2006), as well as two brothers, Bernard "Buddy" Carlton Holt and Boyd Curtis Holt, both of Albemarle, NC. Mrs. Holt received her education from the Albemarle School system. Her early employment included Wiscassett Mills Company, Albemarle, NC, and Craftsmen Finishers, Concord, NC. Then in 1961, after receiving her cosmetology license, she began the career about which she was most passionate. She continued work in her home-based beauty salon until she retired in 2009. She incorporated a desire to help others into her profession, with many of her customers becoming lifelong and cherished friends. Mrs. Corbin was active in the Order of The Eastern Star, serving as worthy matron in the early 1960s. She maintained her membership and enjoyed being active in the Pilot Club of Kannapolis since the 1960s. She has been a long time member of Centerview Baptist Church, Kannapolis. Surviving Mrs. Corbin are her son Herman Franklin "Frankie" Corbin II (and his wife Carol) of Kannapolis, NC; as her treasured granddaughter Erin Corbin Hinckley (and her husband Brad); great-grandson Corbin Andrew Hinckley; sisters Ramona Holt Speight of Albemarle, and Barbara Holt Myers and husband Allen; and seven nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 14, 2010. A service to celebrate her life will be held 2:00 P.M. Thursday, April 15, 2010 at Centerview Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Willie Rash. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Centerview Baptist Church (415 Walter Street Kannapolis, NC 28083-4559).
