Maron Elizabeth (Pete) Sloop

Obituary: Maron Elizabeth (Pete) Sloop, 85 of Kannapolis, passed away on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at Carrington Place in Matthews following a period of declining health. Miss Sloop was born on March 8, 1927 in Rowan County a daughter of the late Lonnie Harris and Maron Barnhardt Sloop. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by 2 brothers, Oscar and James and a sister Beulah Olene Dancy. She was a 1945 graduate of Cannon High School, a graduate of North State Business College and a life member of the Women of the ELCA. In Miss Sloops early years, she was employed at Cannon Mills Plant #1, #1 weave room as a time keeper for 22 years and most recently was payroll supervisor at the former Cabarrus Memorial Hospital where she retired from in 1992. She was a former member of Bethany Lutheran Church where she served on church council and taught Sunday school and was a charter member and volunteer of New Hope Lutheran Church. Miss Sloop is survived by 2 nephews; Bill Dancy and wife Ann of Manassas, VA. and Michael Sloop and wife Faye of Charlotte. Funeral services for Miss Sloop will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday January 12, 2013 at Whitley's Funeral Home with Rev. Kim E. Trabold officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM Saturday at the funeral home prior to the services.
