Martha Jane Gatton Austin

Obituary: Martha Jane Gatton Austin, age 92, of Kannapolis died Thursday, April 11, 2013 at Tucker Hospice House after a period of declining health. Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, April 14, 2013 at Carolina Memorial Park, with Rev. Gary Scoggins officiating. The family will receive friends after the committal at the graveside. Martha was born June 13, 1920 in Davie Co., a daughter of the late Jimmy L. and Minnie Magdalene Jackson Gatton. She was a long time area resident and member of Lakewood Baptist Church. Martha was employed at Cannon Mills Co., in the Wash Cloth Dept., retiring after 43 years of service. In addition to her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her husband; Gaither Aaron Austin and 6 brothers and sisters. Those left to cherish her memories include her daughter, Kay Frances Austin of Kannapolis, her son, Charles Aaron Austin of Mint Hill, 6 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren and her sister, Evelyn Sloop of Charlotte.
